Clay Art Workshops: Visual Echoes of Nature

During this 3-part series of hands-on workshops, local artist Marty Huehner will lead participants through the process of collecting natural items, making a clay “negative” and then making a clay “positive” to create an artistic piece. Marty will fire tiles outside of class time at his studio. During the final session, participants will use watercolor paints or natural pigments to paint their tile(s), and if you choose, you will mount your pieces on a background of your choice. Marty’s art exhibit, which is currently on display at the BFEC, includes fired clay pieces similar to what will be constructed during these workshops. His process, called the Clay Camera©, involves producing a “negative" from a natural texture and then using it to create “positive” images that are enhanced with ceramic stains and glazes. The positive prints are then used to build larger, more complex syntheses. Participants should plan to attend all 3 sessions: June 29, July 13, and July 20; 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Materials fee: $30. Participants should bring a pizza box for storing clay pieces, and if you wish, something upon which you will mount the final fired/painted piece. Seating is limited. Call now to reserve your seat 740-427-5052.
